It is best practice for Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) to be carried out.
However the Government has put Health & Safety Regulations in place referring to the safety of electrical appliances.
The most efficient and economical way of complying with these regulations is Personal Appliance Testing.
Hence the acronym PAT.
Health & Safety at Work Act of 1974,
The Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989,
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment of 1998,
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations of 1999,
The Health & Safety Executive UK as well as insurance companies will expect you to comply with these regulations and to perform PAT testing at regular intervals.
Non compliance with these regulations can bring a fine up to £5000, and or a 6 month sentence and invalidate your insurance policy.
PAT testing is the most efficient method of identifying faulty appliances that are in daily use.
Faults in electrical equipment are an accident waiting to happen, the consequences of which need to be given some serious consideration.
